Curzita James, NMSPAL Karate Club Member, took second place in the United States Karate Alliance, held at the California State Championships in Riverside CA on August 22, 2009.
James, who entered the Kids 10-11 year old kumite (fighting)division, has been training with in the NMSPAL Karate Program for three months.
James is the granddaughter of NMSPAL Karate Instructor, Jack James.

Free ongoing Karate classes for all ages are available from NMSPAL. Classes are offered Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. and taught by the world class instructor Sensei Jack James, a 8th degree Black Belt with over 38+ years experience as a Karate instructor. "The Coalition of State PALS' has received support from the United States Congress for FY 2006 to implement a Law Enforcement Gang Prevention-Intervention Program that will deal with gang violence, drive-by shootings and drug-related murders that are impacting our states. The Coalition believe's that with the implementation of this significant program, the partnership will be able to unite in dealing with these critical issues plaguing our local communities. The overall goal of the Coalition is to foster collaboration in addressing issues important to their memberships in the field of crime prevention and education."
